Stick tape that lasts a full drop-in
Re-tape the blade edge before public skate if the ice was wet last session. A dry grip on the shaft matters as much as blade wax when gloves are damp. Carry one spare roll in the bag so you are not borrowing mid-shift.
Helmet fit after a haircut week
Recheck strap tension when hair length changes. A helmet that slid fine in August can rock after a September cut. Two fingers under the chin strap remains a quick field test.
Bench rotation without lost sticks
Mark your stick with tape color at the knob. Shared racks eat identical black sticks during busy drop-ins; a two-second mark saves a period of confusion.
