Mellow Yellow Claims the First State broomball Tournament

Another successful First State broomball Tournament in the books! Thank you for all the players, fans, and officials for making this tournament possible. It goes without saying, but we’re going to do it anyway, none of this would be possible without you; you have our sincerest appreciation.

The weekend consisted of a lot of food, drink, and fun in addition to some great broomball matchups on the ice. Van Buren Boys played some of the closest games all tournament weekend with three of the four games being a 1-goal decision. Super Horsipede opened the playoff scoring almost immediately into their game with the eventual tournament champions by capitalizing on a miscue in front. Tanks for the Memories came out hard against last year’s champions in their quarter-final matchup scoring first. However, their opponent clawed their back into the game to eventually win a 3-2 nail biter. Broomdock Saints improved on last year’s showing by advancing to the semifinals with a highly contested win over the Beltway Roadrunners, who just three weeks ago dispatched the Saints on their way to winning the Beantown Broomball Final. With a birth to the finals on the line, Del Boca Vista and Ambiguously Gray needed overtime to decide a winner. With 2:48 left in first overtime period Gray’s Paul Fajman ends the game 15 seconds into his with a high shot on net. In the close championship bout newly-formed Mellow Yellow, with players consisting of longtime First State Broomball Tournament regulars, brings home the Tyler Dickerson Bowl!

Almost all games are available to view on Broomball Central Live’s Facebook page. Our apologies in advance for our attempt at commentary over this weekend’s coverage.  Game photos, including team photos, will be available on our Facebook Page facebook.com/fsbroomball as soon as they can be sorted through. Our hope is to complete this during the week.

For those that are not sick of Delaware yet, we will be back at it again hosting a one-day draft tournament July 14th. All information can be found at firststatebroomball.com/draft and as always, if you want to get in touch with us you can always email us at [email protected] or find us on the major social media platforms at fsbroomball.
